Announces It’s

1st Annual Parking Lot Sailing Regatta

(Big $$ Prizes)

In the name of re-directing our national recreational activities away from petro-based activities (ATV and 4-wheel landscape gouging, dirty dirt biking, risky power boating, noisy car and go-cart racing, suicidal sky-diving and snow-mobiling, etc.) we have the honor to introduce a low-cost and relatively safe alternative for thrill seekers based on wind-energy, i.e. parking lot sailing. Thus, we are pleased to announce the 1st Annual Parking Lot Sailing Regatta to be held  --------------, or on a following day as weather may dictate by providing  winds between 7- and 25-mph without any threats of lightning. The Regatta will be held on the ___________ parking lot, with auto parking on the ______ end of the parking lot.  Spectators will be required to pay a $1.00/person entrance fee, plus $1.00 for each vehicle to be parked. Gates will open at 8:30a.m. and close at 6:30p.m.. Beverages and light food items will be sold at the Regatta.

CONTESTANTS

Contestants may be male or female who are at least 14-years old or older. You must have parental permission to participate if under 18-years of age. For safety reasons, all contestants must wear a helmet, gloves, elbow and kneepads – all of good quality. Additional safety equipment may be worn as each participant may choose.

The regatta provides for two sailing divisions: #1. For hand held sails – of any design that can be used with skateboards and roller skates (inline and quad); and, #2. For sails masted and fixed to a conventional longboard (wide wheels & long base skateboard).  Each division will be broken into two age groups, i.e. Junior (under 18) and Senior (18 and over).

Registration fees

For Juniors (under 18) $1.00 per event

For Seniors (over 18) $5.00 per event

(Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place event winners.)

Slalom Race: To run a course crosswise to the wind, down and back through a series of obstacles (50-yrds each way) – judged by time for completion, minus count for pylons missed and  knocked over, and foot or body contact with parking lot surface. Lee-side, windward side &/or hang gliding style sailing techniques may be used – as your sail type will permit.

UpWind Race: To start from a point 50-yards downwind from the finish point, to be judged by time for completion minus count for sculling and foot or body contact with parking lot surface. Lee-side, windward side &/or hang gliding style sailing techniques may be used – as your sail type will permit.

Freestyle:  Your 3-minute demonstration  will be judged by the flow and grace of jibing from lee-side to windward side to hang-gliding style sailing while sailing to, away from and broad reach to point of wind – as your sail type and creativity will permit. Coordinative style and creativity will be of paramount importance – not speed. Bring your CD and we will PA your music for your 3-minute freestyle demonstration.

Additionally, 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prizes will be awarded for the most artfully decorated sails, and for the 3 ugliest sails. No registration fee for this competition, but must have registered and participated in one of the above three events.
